Once issues become visible: said out loud, written down, people often suddenly see the light at the end of the tunnel. Things become much clearer and easier to solve.
I couldn’t agree more. The image that came to mind is sunlight.
It is often said that sunlight is the best disinfectant. But it can be gentler than that too. A balm.
Simply expressing the reality of a situation, regardless of whether or not anything can be done to change it, is powerful. Naming a truth can be a relief. It can unify. It can galvanise. It can build trust.
Sure, maybe we can’t ‘do’ anything about it. But by being honest and transparent, we are doing something. We’re transforming a situation from one of hopelessness, cynicism and isolation into one of coherence, purpose and truth.
We’re letting the light in. Even if it can’t heal immediately, it can soothe. Sometimes, that’s all we need.
