I admit, it’s been very quiet on this side of things since I set this up, but I believe this will be changing this year.

I worked with one of the staff engineers at Pleo, Dan Abel, back at Tes, and I still consider him one of the best engineers and mentors I've worked with. We've stayed in touch ever since. He's currently doing some really cool stuff at Pleo, and they have this excellent entry-level apprenticeship program. You can read more about it here.

I met with Michael and Hugo from Unbox a few weeks ago, and they’re doing some very exciting things in the emerging Social Commerce space.

Social Commerce is different from e-commerce in that you're selling directly embedded within social media content, which is a whole new paradigm, a whole new market, and something that companies are beginning to adopt more and more. It's really going to be the future of a lot of online selling, so definitely worth checking out.

They're looking for a Lead Product Engineer who's willing to be forward-thinking and proactive on the front-end side, leveraging AI tooling but also experimenting with new types of AI-driven UX. A very cool opportunity.

I had a chat with Will about Workflow and what they're up to there. Although it was an introductory call, I was really impressed by what they've managed to achieve already - raising $3M pre-seed (!!), the traction of their product and the really beautiful aesthetic. This is definitely one to keep an eye on. And if you're able to apply for this CTO role, I'd highly recommend getting in touch. It’s an excellent opportunity.

As a fractional CTO and tech strategist, I have the privilege of working and talking with dozens of exciting startups based in London.

One of the most common headaches they experience is finding great people to join their teams.

I’ve also worked with many amazing engineers whose talents and wide range of skills and experiences simply weren’t given space in the confines of a traditional engineering organisation, and I think this problem will only accelerate in the future.

Rather than generic job role descriptions, I’ll be sharing interviews with founders about their company and the kind of person they’re looking for. This gives founders the chance to talk about what they really want, rather than trying to fit into a generic template of ‘years of experience’ and ‘required technologies’, and instead get to the core of who they’re looking for.
